This is from the Haynes Manual (the Staple in the uk;-) )- what you are saying makes sense though because I have no reason to disbelieve the PO who said it had never been changed. Also I think mine was registered early 72 which would vindicate what you've said. It does seem a lot better on zero advance though. I'd be interested if you knew when the engines changed from U to X though.... The plot thickens. I find that book has so many more contradictions about T3s (well, T2 also!) in Bentley and the rebuilding aircooled engines (the red one), which covers t3 pretty well from engine r and r to reinstall.
