This is from the Haynes Manual (the Staple in the uk;-) )- what you are
saying makes sense though because I have no reason to disbelieve the PO
who said it had never been changed. Also I think mine was registered
early 72 which would vindicate what you've said. It does seem a lot
better on zero advance though. I'd be interested if you knew when the
engines changed from U to X though....

The plot thickens.

I have an early 72 fasty vin ending in 4334. Bought from original owner.
Engine NEVER changed out. It has a U code, and has the timing sticker
for the 72 5 deg spec.
I think X code was mid to late 72 and 73.
If you are getting the info from Muir, close it.... I find that book has
so many more contradictions about T3s (well, T2 also!) in Bentley and
the rebuilding aircooled engines (the red one), which covers t3 pretty
well from engine r and r to reinstall. Bentley is a staple so far,
though.
