There will always be differing circumstances, but the constant should be
your operating voltage.  Just like on a Amp, the switch on is just for that,
it's a relay.  I'd bet your problem may be solved if you ran a dedicated
feed to the battery instead of through the fuse box.  Just leave the key on
where it is now

I don't know.  I just found a constant and a switched 12V on the fuse
box and connected.

One thing I've never been able to find out about car radios is whether
the swithced 12V is the main operating voltage and the constant
12V is just a trickle to hold the presets or if the constant 12V is
the operating voltage and the switched 12V is just a control signal.
