While it's probably not as interesting, I think the most useful sounds would come from a contact microphone. Everyone here should try listening thru a long screwdriver stuck on different places of the block, heads, generator. Each one tells a different story and it's often reassuring to be able to listen to what's going on inside and hear that it's much more regular sounding than what we "hear" on the outside.
