We all got a 10th digit starting in 70. Think of it like this:

140 2 100349

Where the 140 means type 1, version 4, year ending in zero.

Second decade of this numbering system (I know, not really correct, but 
that's how I think of it. Think of the 60s as the first decade and then the 70s 
are the second decade.)

100349th car off the line in that model year.
