The type 3 engine sucks in its cooling air thru a rubber bellows at the rear. This brings in cool air from the louvers outside. The type 1 engine sucks in air from the space above the engine, but in a beetle or bus this space is sealed off from the bottom half of the engine where the heated air is exhausted. If you put a type 1 engine in a type 3 car it will just suck in hot air from around itself and recycle this air over and over again. One of the signs of this is a thermostat which has gotten so hot that it has popped. Engines run like this have very short lifetimes. Yes, you should be concerned. - ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------- Search old messages on the Web!
