But I was interested so...

I walked out to my '67 to check things out, my stopper is a little loose
but slides along the rod.  I pushed it all the way down, then put the dip
stick in, the stopper did not move up at all so it cannot be bottoming out
on anything.  I also noticed the dipstick compresses even if the stopper
is all the way at the top.
