I knew that it wouldn't be a direct bolt in, so that wasn't my issue. It's a matter of cost. The 68 fastback didn't cost me anything so I'm trying to fix it on the cheap. I can get my hands on a good running type 2 engine for very little so I was just trying to see if there were any major hurdles in the conversion. Both the donor and the receiver are 68's so other than the dipstick issue it sounds like I should be able to transfer the cooling system and tinware over and be pretty close to usable. Meantime I'll keep an eye out for an inexpensive type 3 engine just in case. Thanks guys. --- Original Message --- From: "Jim Adney" <jadney@vwtype3.org> To: <type3@vwtype3.org> Subject: RE: [T3] Newbie question >On 15 Apr 2002, at 23:31, Derek Flenniken wrote: > >> > Is it possible to use/convert a type 2 engine in a type 3 fastback? >> >> You can put it in, it will work, and it will run, but it won't last for long.
