None of these are easy to get to. You have to pull the engine to replace the flywheel seal and then pull the heads to replace the pushrod tubes and seals. The oil cooler seals can be replaced in the car, but it is quite a job to get in there. > it also appears that the oil filler neck is leaking right at the block. i > have seen that there is a tool to aid in re-bolting this item back in once > you replace the seal. is it imperative or can i just measure and bolt it > back up best i can? I'm amazed that you've seen this picture. I think that only one of my books shows it and I don't know a tool # for it. Most people just bolt these on and adjust them so they point nicely to the filler neck on the body. I made the gauge, but I'm not convinced that it is important. Russ, what do you think? I often find that the flange on the bottom of that tube is bent such that it can't seal well. Fortunately, if you have a good vice it is rather easy to straighten out flat again. You have to take it out to do this however. Be careful of the gasket, it may be hard/impossible to find a replacement. - Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe? mailto:type3-request@vwtype3.org, Subject: unsubscribe
