RE: [T3] thermostat & air cooling flaps

<x-charset windows-1252>Oops! had the wrong subject on that last note.

On this subject, keep in mind when you are looking for thermostat parts that there are two versions of the push rods. One for dual port and one for single port. The thermostat, thermostat bracket, bell crank and bracket (that bolts to the head) and the flaps are all the same. The push rods (both vertical and horizontal) are different to account for the difference in head bolt length and subsequent location of the bell crank.

I ran into this when trying to get parts for my 66 Square (single port) which was missing some of the thermostat bits. I tried to use parts from my 71 Fasty (dual port) wouldn't work. I got a set of early parts on loan from a fellow Listee (Thanks again, John) to compare. This is how I found out that it was only the push rods that are different. I was able fabricate new push rods from the correct diameter music wire. The bends are pretty simply. Hardest part was grinding the small groove for the small snap ring keeper. Probably could have cross drilled it and safety wired it a bit easier.

I have some pictures at home if anyone is interested in seeing the difference.
