Ok, I need some more assistance. If you remember my car was 'bogging' down when trying to accelerate, just had no power and made an awful sound. Here is what I have done: checked the gas tank, it was very clean. Then I set the idle, it was way to high, so I set it with the vacuums off and plugged. Checked the dwell and it was round 48deg. I then set the timing (with a a borrowed timing light as advised) it was also way off. I reattached the vacuums and reset the idle. However, I could not get it to idle past around 925rpm with the vacuums attached. Didn't someone else have this problem? Anyway, I let that go for the moment is was around the proper range of 950 +- 50. I took it for a drive and the bogging hesitation was gone, except for a small 'flat' spot on acceleration with peddle about a quarter in depressed, which seems to have always been there. I drove it for a while, few times around the block and it was great. Then I parked it for about 15 minutes while I cleaned up. Got back in and drove to the store. This time the bogging hesitation was back, but not quite in the same way. I would bog down if I tried to accelerate too quickly. If I eased the peddle down I ran fine, but the second I tried too much peddle it would bog down and loose power. Could this be my inexperienced timing etc? Any ideas? Thanks a lot. BTW, I used the Bentley and the istructions for a 72 automatic, with a inductive timing light.
