<x-charset iso-8859-1>DavidT=> What should I be looking for? A straight, clean body, free of rust. Everything else is relatively easy to fix (although money is involved, of course). => What are the typical problems with these cars? You can expect to see a cracked dash pad, a tired suspension and interior. Poor battery maintenance and condensation often causes rust under the right rear seat. If the body's not rusty, it's likely that the window rubber is pretty dry and leaking. This can cause hidden rust in the window wells and under the carpets. Plan on new front suspension joints and a brake rebuild. The fuel tank breather pipe to the filler typically fails, leading to water in the tank and subsequent problems. Many mechanical problems are caused by wrenches who think that Type 3s are just Type 1s with more expensive parts. These guys will stick in an upright engine, leave off the air intake boot or cooling tin parts, all sorts of car-killing mistakes. Take a good look at the site for pictures that give you an idea how things should look. Good luck! Welcome to the list.
