(Had a good time at Kelley Park today -- got in line at quarter to 8am, and entered the grounds at about 9am (I think). We didn't get to park w/ the other Type IIIs :( but at least we made it in! Our '69 Squareback was the 13th Type III entered. Got to meet Drake, Carrie, Tom, Norman... and saw Todd and Corey.) Todd and I got to talk Volksmags... a trick with these is to find center caps. Todd has scrounged up several from here and there, and has also had a set of center caps from another "modern" wheel turned down a bit so they'll fit. I got to thinking that there must be *something* easy to use as a center cap. I'd packed my dial calipers, measured the center hole at about 2.37 inches, and my daughter and I headed off for a treasure hunt in the swap meet. I had a look at those plain black plastic VW center caps that went on late model (late 70s) hubcap-less steel Beetle rims. Aside from not looking terribly flashy, they're a bit undersized for the Volksmag. Made a mental note, as they'd probably be better than nothing. Moved on to look for something else. Looked and looked at odds and ends of things layed out on tables and tarps... then I found it. :) It measured up too good to be true. I realized that I could even go back to my Squareback, pop one off, and try it for fit on the Volksmag. It fit *perfectly*, and even held itself in place. Looked kinda cool, too. Todd -- care to take a guess as to which part I had on my Squareback that fits perfectly as a Volksmag center cap? It took us about fifteen minutes and all of ten bucks to come up with four more from three different swap vendors. -Greg ------------------------------------------------------------------- Search old messages on the Web!
