<x-charset iso-8859-1>A caution I haven't seen and one that would keep me from EVER using a home pit for vehicles is the fume problem. Whatever materials get into the pit, oil, gas, whatever will outgas into a closed area. Makes breathing a bit of a challenge, particularly when you can't tell how much oxygen is NOT down there. Add a fan you say? Don't forget that some of the fumes are flammable, and sparks fly within an electric motor. Yah, you can build in additional fans, safety monitors, oxygen level alarms, etc., but none of that is needed for a level garage with a lift, assuming that the door is left open. Just not worth the extra effort and $ to make it a safe solo work environment, as we all work at some time by ourselves. Should have seen the lengths we went to to repair weld heating elements on the inside of an insulated furnace, 10 feet diameter and 15 ft tall with no openings to the outside but the bottom, and exactly enough room for the electric lift to lift us to the top, to make it a safe place to work for a few hours! Jeff who almost has enough room cleared to get his '67 Sqbk into the garage. -----Original Message----- But w/ only a 10' -13' high ceiling, wouldn't a "pit" be more apropriate, then you stand up under your VW or( other vehicle).Don't forget to leave a corner open for the frig full of your favorite beverage! ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org </x-charset>
