<x-charset iso-8859-1>Basically if you create anything that is original it is automatically copyrighted. No need to use the copyright logo although it can help, the 'c' logo only works as a visual deterrent. As someone else on this list pointed out the problem is when it goes to court, you have to prove "beyond reasonable doubt" that you were the original creator. This usually boils down to proving that you created your piece of work, had the idea or whatever, before the other person that you're up against. This has been done in various ways in the past, one example is someone created a piece or artwork, took photo's of it, put it in a sealed envelope and posted it back to themselves. It then had a date stamp on it and the envelope was then opened in court. It still may not be the definitive answer but would 'help' your argument in court. In Jim's original mail I believe he was referring to using someone else's logo in a web page, in that case, your piece is still copyrighted but I believe you should still ask permission to use a Trademarked logo to avoid infringement which is what the VWoA thing is all about. over and out, Dan '73 Fastback ---- -----Original Message----- From: Drake . Copyrights arent anywhere close to trademarks. If I create an image, or publish a paper, I *think* that if I simply say that its copyrighted then it is. I just need to ensure that the copyright mark/statement is on it in the future.
