I have done quite a few over the last 35 years or so. '66 T-3 is one of the toughest, because of the turnsignals and the wiper motor. The wiper motor can be taken care of by a voltage drop that I have seen advertisted in the Rocky Mountain Motor Works catalog. It is a transitorized unit, which is better that just putting a big resistor in series with the motor. As for the turn signal flasher, If you can find a flasher out of a '67, it is a straight across swap. You will also have to change the fan housing, as the generator mounts are different diameters between the 6V and the 12V. As for the starter, I usually leave the 6V starter in place, and just use it with 12V. It will last a long time that way. It is usually not the starter that fails eventually, but the teeth on the flywheel. I am getting ready to convert my '66 FB to 12V, but not before I get it running as a 6V. -- Russ Wolfe '71 Fastback AT '66 Fastback MT (not running yet) russw@classicvw.org http://www.classicvw.org ------------------------------------------------------------------- Too much?
