I don't think that driving on the left is such a small minority.

There are more than 40 different independent sovereign nations which drive on
the "wrong" side of the road (i.e. the left) and they have a combined
population of more than 1.8 billion which is roughly one third of the world's
population.  Some of the biggest drive on the left countries in terms of
vehicle usage and population would be India, Pakistan, South Africa, Britain,
Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia and Japan.  And, VWType3s were sold in each
of them except for India.
