While the OE mirrors all had the same shape glass (68-73) the passenger sides all have a longer stem to put them in a useful position. There also appear to have been 2-3 different manufacturers for these mirrors because the metal parts (in front of the glass) come in various styles, which I think you've noticed. > i just compared the drivers side SB mirror to my > boyfriends '74 super beetle mirror....his mirror is > slightly taller and shorter long ways and the arm is > thicker and shorter and also has a black ring around > the mirror itself...oh and of course the part number > is different.. but he says that there really is no > difference.... I don't THINK any of the OE type 3 mirrors came with the black retainer gasket; all the ones I have seen were kind of translucent/clear. There certainly were aftermarket ones, but it's hard to tell by now which were originals and which have been replaced. - Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe? mailto:type3-request@vwtype3.org, Subject: unsubscribe
