The fresh air fan is just as nice to have in wet, humid winter weather, as it is on hot summer days. It is useful to clear the front windshield when the heater boxes are not hot yet, or the rockers are gone. I believe the fresh air fan was part of the L equipment package, my car does have it, even though it is a rare option in Europe.
