First, you should not be using a gasket with an automatic flex plate. It gets
the O-ring only. Gaskets are for the older cranks and flywheels.
Second, DO NOT use 4 shims. Three shims only. If everything is right, you
should come out with the right end play. .07-.13 mm, (.0027-.005") for an new
rebuild. Wear limit is .15mm, (.006"). I usually try to get a new rebuild set
to .06-.08 mm.
Do you have the case together, or are you doing this before assembling the
case halves. Before the case halves are together, you can check it with a
feeler guage.
The reason for only using 3 shims is, 1 shim spins with the flywheel, one
stays fixed with the bearing, and the 3rd kind of acts like a bearing/thrust
between the other 2.
The reason for not too tight an end play, is that the bearing expands a
little with heat, and can seize it up. Also you need a little clearance for
oil in the shim area.
