To my surprise she said yes, (I have to get rid of my junk squares though). I looked ate the Type34 web site but all the cars on there seem to have been for sale for at least a year and a half. I figure I will start looking now as it shouldn't take long to finish the house cosmetics. Any one have a good one for sale? Thanks----Bryan Type 34's are a strange breed. You can't find replacement rubber for them, so you must use "almost" rubber from other cars. For the vent windows, for example, you must use similar rubber for a 1970 bus and cut it. Windshield rubber is not hard to find, but no one ever told me to use the same rubber on the back windshield (it works). Trunk and decklid rubber must be cut, three making two, etc. Door rubber is the same way, three making two. For the back side window rubber, you must use Type 1 Ghia rubber plus one small piece of your existing rubber that's in best condition. For window scrapers you must use 1967 bug convertible scrapers, which are 4 inches short. You need two rubbers instead of one, as usual.. After you get past the rubber problem, which is costly to repair (about $1,000), you can start thinking of the rest of the restoration. If it needs anything substantial, particularly heater boxes, forget it and go onto something else. Heater boxes are made into the rocker panels of a Type 34. Any damage to the rocker panels is not repairable. It is replaceable, however. But that means that you need two Type 34 bodies to make one good one. Since only about 4,500 Type 34's were made, you'll find it hard to replace. There is some talk about using VW 411's and 412's as parts cars for a Type 34. But don't count on that. Walk away from any Type 34 with rust in the rocker panels, because that's as bad as bad can be. I recently saw a Type 34 with a sun roof in a junk yard. But the rocker panels were rusted out meaning bad heater boxes meaning the car was on the verge of breaking in half near where the rust was. So I had to pass, knowing that the junk yard owner needed to make some money, too. He could make his money off someone else, not the kid. But the Type 34 can be a beautiful car, if you have the patience and financial wherewithal. Mine is red and black.
