I suspect that if you just press down one time and hold the pedal down hard you will find that you actually DO have front brakes. If you really don't have any brakes at all (try this moving slowly on a quiet street) then we have a different kind of problem. If you have some brakes then, you can pull up on the hand brake and see if this helps at all (don't expect much.) If it helps AT ALL, then your front brakes were working and you added in a bit of back brake. If it didn't help, then the back brakes were already working and the hand brake didn't add anything.
