[T3] Question on engine trouble....worth it?

Ok..I am still trying to hunt down a Square. I know you are getting sick of hearing about it. ;)

I am in a quandry about this one. Sounds like it could be a good deal, but a ways to travel without much information. Here is what he has to say about non-running condition. 

Thoughts appreciated...I would take this to a competent mechanic, BTW. I just don't have the time with work and family to tackle a job like this....

"OK the body and interior are in good condition.  
    Its the engine where the problem is.  It will start but won't idle.  It runs 
    very rough.  I think its in the valves.  If you know your fuel injected VW 
    engines it would be a good car for you but otherwise you should look at 
    other ones."
