Do a compression check. All cylinders on a good engine should be within 10% 
of each other. I you find a cylinder low, squirt some oil into that cylinder, 
and check compression again on that cylinder.  If the compression comes up, 
it is not a burnt valve. Also, check the valve clearance. If a valve is 
tight, it is probably starting to burn.
