The early ones have the wrap-around backing plates, while the flared ones started in the last month of the 71 model year along with the larger calipers. The late calipers take larger pads which will wear longer, but don't brake any better. They MAY have a bit better fade resistance. Inside the front axle beams there is another more important difference: The anti roll bar is stiffer on the squarebacks. - ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe? mailto:type3-request@vwtype3.org, Subject: unsubscribe
