Hey John, i also bought the tar boards from McMaster. I covered the whole pan of my squareback as well as the kick panels down by where your feet rest and i only used one layer. The stuff worked great! My car is way more quite than when i had the original factory tar boards in. The stuff really forms well to the stamped pattern on the pan. From what i know it's really important to make sure every area of the stuff is stuck to the pan leaving no air pockets. I used an edge of a big socket on an extension to smooth out the tar board around all of the nooks and crannies. Just my 2 cents. Let us know how it turns out. later, jesse 71 fi squareback John wrote: The tarboards from McMaster Carr come in a sheet (actually they ship it rolled up) that is 36"x 54'. It is only 0.070 inches thick. They are self-adhesive on one side. Just peel and stick. They are thinner that the OEM boards, but the areal weight is pretty close so they should do a decent job of sound deadening. I am going to start with a single layer and see how it does. The stuff is cheap enough that I might double up the layers. I paid $12.38 per sheet. I order 3 sheets and the shipping was $6.00. I ordered on a Thursday and got them on Monday. Only negative to McMaster's website (http://www.mcmaster.com/) is they don't have a shipping estimator built in. I ended up calling and talking to customer service to get the shipping costs. Customer service was very friendly, knowledgable and helpful. I will let everyone know how the installation goes and what the results are.
