For some of us who use our cars for a "daily driver" Hagerty apparently will not work. I also heard about the horror stories about the stated value policies from one of my customers who runs a body shop. He informed me stated value is not worth the paper it is written on and you pay extra for it. I had a American Family Insurance policy that the agent assured me in the event of a total loss my vehicle would be covered. So here is what I think is a technique to make sure your vehicle IS covered under a stated value policy. Send a certified return receipt to your insurance agent by name not the company letter with the following statement: "I understand policy #XXXX-XXXX-XXXX will pay $XXXX.XX on vehicle (place V.I.N. and make here) in the event of a total loss. If this statement is not true, please rewrite a policy so that statement will be true. If this statement is true you do not need to respond to this letter" If the policy is rewritten follow up with another certified return receipt letter. Save all paper work!! If you have a total loss and the ajuster gives you any grief. You have proof and I think this will work. Mine was rewritten and was informed all I had before was liability only for a year after I spent $5K on restoration. Point is don't take anyone's word for anything, back it up!
