Re: [T3] evaluating your car for insurance
I usually just sit back and read everyone's problems and responses without
adding much, (not all that wise on the mechanical side - the tough work on my
cars is usually performed by others) but this subject is one I've studied.
I don't mean to repeat myself, but many of you are paying way too much for
car insurance. I really hate to see you guys getting killed on insurance
(insurance is the biggest rip off; many of us would probably own 10 cars if
it wasn't for insurance). I think you all should at least give Hagerty
Classic Car Insurance a call and have them send you a brochure and a free
quote, it's at least worth the five minute call.
My dad has been in car clubs and owned old Fords and Chevys (1920's and 30's
models) for as long as I can remember. All the guys in his club uses
Hagerty. All claim, to date, have paid without a hitch.
Hagerty also has some special requirements, but if they fit your situation,
you can't bet it. 1. The car must be garage, 2. you'll have to give it a
stated value (no appraiser needed unless you get way up there in value) 3.
you'll have to send them photos, and 4. you must have regular full coverage
on your daily driver vehicle through some other company like State Farm,
etc.(you'll have to provide them with a copy of your other policy). That's
pretty much it. Each situation is a little different, but that was it for
me.
I currently have full coverage for two vehicles with a total stated value of
$13,500 for $132.00 per year (one of my cars is currently being restored, and
they are covering it for $3,500.00 - I only paid $1400.00 for the car). They
asked me how many miles I thought I might drive them a year, but was told of
no restrictions. I can drive the cars as often as I want - fully covered.
Give them a call at (800)922-4050 or visit www.hagerty.com
As an added note, I've had State Farm for over 20 years, have a no drop
policy, and a great driving record, and my State Farm rep suggested I go with
Hagerty.
