Right, get some friends to push it by hand instead.

I don't care for pulling, either. If the car starts suddenly it can ram 
the tow vehicle, and if you don't keep the rope tight you can run 
over your own tow rope with unexpected consequences. The towing 
eye is certainly strong, but you'll only find it on 71-3 cars.

My preference for bump starting is on a hill. Use 2nd or 3rd gear. 
You can even do this in Reverse if you have to back down the hill.
