While the coil was a possibility, I think you have proven that it 
wasn't the problem. The generator was never even a possibility.

There's nothing wrong with bump starting your car, just use the 
normal amount of care with the clutch.

There's really not enough information to make a diagnosis yet. 
Intermittent problems really can't be solved until you can check 
things out WHILE it is failing. Next time, figure out a way to check 
to see if you have spark. That way you will know whether to 
concentrate on fuel or ignition.
