I seem to recall our talking about this a few months ago, but I don't remember the outcome--just that there seemed to be a larger number of engines produced than cars, by a large margin. Perhaps some of these blocks were made into upright engines for type 2s, I don't have a type 2 engine listing handy, but I DO have the microfilm and could look at it and see what they claim to have used for engines in 65. I don't think it would be fair to say that type 2s got type 3 engines in 65, but it might be true that all the 1500 engines that year were made with engine numbers in the same series. If this were the case we might find that both type 2s and type 3s claimed the same engine numbers over some period. This would explain why both showed excess engine production for that year. Perhaps the sum of type 2 and type 3 vehicle production would come out about right for the entire run of those engines. Certainly confusing. - ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------- Too much?
