The first thing to do is to find out whether the problem is with ignition or with gas. The easiest way to test this is with a timing light. Charge the battery and have someone crank the engine with the starter while you watch the connected timing light. If the light is connected right you should see it flash. If it does not flash your problem is an ignition problem. If your ignition is working, then you can start considering other possibilities. Troubleshooting often consists of eliminating the various possibilities until you have the problem narrowed down to just one possibility. I resolder the braid in the process of rebuilding the distributor. That way I can take the breaker plate apart and heat up only what is necessary. I do this with a rather small iron. If you want I could do just this much for you, but you would have to remove the dist and send it to me. The disadvantages of this are obvious; the advantages are that I could look the whole thing over quickly and make sure it is working properly. - ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe? mailto:type3-request@vwtype3.org, Subject: unsubscribe
