As Brian Fye can attest, I don't have such a problem so far. I've been driving my baby to work this whole week and am showing an idle pressure of ~10psi in the evening (rag back, windows down, T-shirt and shorts weather and I'm a skinny dude). In the morning it stays pretty much at 20psi @ idle (mornings are rather chilly and I have the heat on). Of course, I do have my pre-cooler and fan and it has been running in the evening drive home. However, there are only 7,900 miles on the engine. We'll see how she does this summer as I've decided to forgo this year's Gene Berg cruise and hit more of the regional shows (Canada to southern Oregon). As we've contemplated in the past, gauges and/or senders don't seem to be extremely accurate so it's hard to say who's gauge is reading correctly. I've yet to get a red light after start-up... http://www.icbm.org/erkson/personal/VWSTATS.HTM Toby Erkson air_cooled_nut@pobox.com '72 VW Squareback, 1.6L bored & stroked to 2.0L, GB 5-speed '95 VW Jetta, P-Chipped, Jamex suspension, and little stuff Portland, Oregon http://www.icbm.org/ ----- Original Message ----- >...The only response I got to the full flow question was Brain's So Im getting > the impression that there arent many, if any, full flow systems on higher > mileage engines. and Im getting the idea why... > > I talked to one of the engineers at work that knows fluid stuff and he said > that putting an obstruction in line with the oil passage such as the oil > filter is will reduce pressure at the output side, and when dealing with an > oil pump that is not able to keep up at idle can greatly reduce the idle > pressure while with extra capacity at operating speeds will work fine. > > Just to see I drove the square and had someone else drive the notch at the > same time, same temp, same oil, and when we were done with the 20 min trip > the square with 73K on the engine idled at 15 psi while the Notch with its > NEW engine idled at 5psi... not acceptable! ... ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
