Well the snow has melted and i'm picking up where I left off last fall. I picked up a 69 automatic notchback that i'm trying to get running properly. There's a problem with the fuel system. The symptoms include very difficult starting when cold, and a fuel pump relay under the dash that 'clicks' very quickly and was loose. It was suggested to me last year that I should tighten the relay to ground it, which i did, and that it may not be grounded properly at the transmission seeing as the torque convertor had been fixed (by the previous owner before he abandoned it). I did try a new relay (courtesy of a list member), with the same results. Yesterday I tightened the relay under the dash. Lo and behold I hear action from my fuel pump, which i hadn't heard before. I tightened the relay after first starting it up which required cranking it for about a minute before it fired up. Now however the fuel pump won't turn off. It should after about 3 seconds, right? And when i try to start it when it's warm it acts as if it's being flooded, which i guess it is. The relay keeps clicking like it always has. I do hear the click coming from the rear of the car too. Also, i think i connected the red wires on the relay backwards, because the pump kept running with the key in the 'off' position and only stopped in the 'on' position, until i switched them back. Everything else is ready to go for the safety check, except I'm in need of a turn signal switch if anyone has one for sale. Thanks in advance Jeff 69 notchback 85 westfalia ------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe? mailto:type3-request@vwtype3.org, Subject: unsubscribe
