When I was racing, we always used high volume oil pumps. Are these available for vw engines? I was also taught that the volume was more important than the pressure, but always wanted to maintain a certain pressure at idle. It's been a while, but on the small block chevy, if I remember correctly, it was around 15-20psi minimum. Every engine is different. Some can handle less, some need more. It also depends on the use and design of the engine. Since our vw engines rely on the oil for cooling also, would'nt a high flow oil pump be an advantage. Is there a factory specified minimum oil psi at idle?
