Well... I got the back half of the engine off and removed the pump cover, i HAD used the sealing nuts.... They didnt work!! Everything in the pump looked fine but despite my "thin" layer of RTV I plugged the oil return groove and you sure dont want to mess up the groove so maybe that was it. That layer really needs to be a few microns thick... or as Russ says Dry! I did notice some dampness coming from the rear crank... how loose is that dished washer supposed to be on the crank?? it IS installed the the correct orientation but it will flop up and down by about 1/8" and I remember them being a better fit around the crank. The slinger grooves are clean and all so the rest looks OK. Ive come to some conclusions about the Full Flow.. There are VERY few motors out there with any appreciable mileage on the with the full flow systems on them. Jim stated nicely that the system is a compromise between oil pressure and being able to filter the oil... and I personally dont like the idea of compromising oil pressure from a pump that can barely keep up on an older engine for the sake of filtration despite how much I like the idea of filteration. What we really need is a larger oil pump with longer gears but that isnt gonna happen with the T3... and those "high volume" oil pumps you see simply have a larger outlet hole which once again compromises pressure for volume... not a solution! SSO... Ive decided to keep the full flow for now, but with the full realization that as the engine ages and the hot idle pressure drops near the pin Ill have to bypass the filter with a coupling or something... Jim's probably right that these motors will last quite a while with the flickering oil light at idle... they are really quite tough machines as my disaster with Amsoil proved to me years ago but I really want to see some pressure reserve.. especially with a new motor. I think if I err on the side of stock Im safer than otherwise... and I will get some considerable mileage of filtration before I need to bypass it.... and that cant be bad! I appreciate everyones input, it has helped me make an informed decision as to what to do... and Ill let you all know if Ive fixed the oil leak... or if you hear some blood curdling yell in the backgroung youll know I didnt!
