I just bought my e-code headlights, I am so excited ! Yeah, I was going to buy those Cibies 7 inch round units because the world says they are the best. Over a hundred bucks worth. I printed over on hundred pages of E-code information from the internet. But yesterday when I got home and went to a VW shop in Mexico , they had something similar to the ones I mentioned before, those Wagners with brass adjusters. I bought the pair for less than 50 bucks. These Wagners do not seam to have the awsome quality that I saw with the other ones I mentioned before but the quality of wormanship does show with minimal casted writing on the glass to prevent light distortion. The adjustment assembly replaces the beetle's and type 3's ones. I bought some really weird H-4 bulbs from IPF that has very high efficiency using very high pressure and special gas mixture. They claim, (as well as some offroad guys who reviewed these) that with 55/65 watt legal filament, the lumens output is equivalent to 110/150 watt system. These have a luminecent ring that increases the light output when strong light is present, like the filament light. When lights are turned off, stored light from the rings emit useable light for ten minutes. I do not know how useful this "accidental" feature would be but it sure seems it would really look cool. I will keep you posted on how everything works in comparison to my sealed halogen units. These are not the "trick ones" that the Honda guys use, these are the ones offroaders use. They have a one year warranty. We'll see. According to some guys on the internet these bulbs make the e-code casings beam incredible and all without blinding the incoming drivers in low beam. In high beam they say it looks like stadium lights. All without modifing the electrical system. I will see if this is true. I hope this amount of lumens is not illegal and the light emitted is actually white. I know E-Code lamps are not legal. I will see and we will see.
