<< went to start the engine. Nothing. Just the
starter whirling. Went back to the engine and the distributor was
smoking! Took off the cap, and the black wire coming from the metal
module was melted and hot! What did I do wrong? Could it be a defect
in the Compufire set I bought? >>
I installed the compu-fire kit into my bosch 009 dist about a month ago.
Maybe when you installed the unit in place of the points, the wires were not
out of the way enough, so that when the rotor rotated it rubbed against the
wire, and the friction could have melted it. thats the only thing i can
think of.
Also, correct me if im wrong, but i dont think that compu-fire made a 6v
kit. and i believe that your 66 (unless its been converted) is a 6v car
with a 6v ignition coil...
then again, if youre running a 009 dist, its probably not a stock engine,
right?
