[T3] T3 Aussie doors - reinforced driver's side?

Hi Simon and list,
Had a query from Richard Booker (a club member) who bought some imported
Australian Type 3 doors, and the driver's side seems to have reinforcement
panels; 2 pieces of sheet steel, each about A3 size on the inside of the
outer skin.  No problem on the outer skin - no repairs done.

He wanted to fit one-piece windows, but there isn't room on the right-hand
door for the mechanism with these extra panels.
Anyone got any ideas?   Is that door off an ex-presidential (Governor
General) Type 3 limo or something?
