I find the best way to remove the old windows is to put one person on 
his back in the back seat and slowly just push the window out with 
your feet. Push slowly and hard, but don't "stomp" it out. If you 
work carefully it won't break. You will need a second person to catch 
the window on the outside.

The old window will come out with its rubber; the popout rubber is 
different. You may find that your 71 does not have the holes in the B 
pillar for the "hinges." You can cut them yourself, but VW reinforced 
the holes when they installed these windows originally.
