Exhaust in the pass compartment via the heater is never a tune-up problem. It is almost always caused by exhaust leaks where the lower heat exchangers connect to the muffler. If there are leaks there, the exhaust gets blown back against the rear end of the heat exchanger. The region where the exhaust pipe comes out of the air jacket is a common place for the sheet metal to rust away and the blowing exhaust can blow inside and get caught up with the air being delivered to the car. You probably need to renew the seals on the exhaust pipe, but someone here mentioned that the red Hi- Temp RTV silicone sealant would hold up to seal the gap between the air jacket and the exhaust pipe on the heat exchanger. - Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ------------------------------------------------------------------- Too much?
