I just recently did this task. I have a brief dissertation on it on my site here: http://home.att.net/~tomnotch/notchprg.html It's somewhere towards the bottom of the page Picture of the completed seat linked off there.. There are no seat covers made up "off the shelf" that would fit correctly for what you purpose, and I had to have Sewfine modify their pattern for the earlier '66 lowbacks. The inside curvature of the seatback cushion is greater and the sides are much thicker. I can find scan and email some pix of my frames that I took just before painting them and sending them to have them upholstered. Mine ended up being a about an inch different. I wonder if this could be considered a darkside modification? Hope this helps, Tom Hansen '69 Bug, 2161cc, 5spd, etc. '64 Notch, 2650cc, and under renovation ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kris Taylor" > Can you cut the highback headrest portion of a 72 seat > to make a lowback?, Ive only heard of people doing > this to a type 1, fact or fiction? ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
