One thing I have found with symptoms of bad idle but decent higher RPM is the float sticking or too much fuel pressure. At idle this will cause the fuel to flow over into other passages like air bleeds and the engine will run way to rich to be able to idle. Have you checked your plugs just after it dies when trying to idle? If you have your carbs already apart, pay close attention to the float/needle & seat. Sometimes they become misaligned or a small piece of dirt gets between them. On my old Holleys, when this happened I would just pull the needle & seat and clean them up real good and reinstall and 9 times out of 10 it would solve the problem. Just from my experience; not real familiar with Solexs and Webers yet.
