Since cool air is denser, you can get more air mass into the cylinder if you use cool air. That's why big turbocharger units have intercoolers to cool the compressed air back down. So cooler intake air is better. Many cars have intake air preheating to help the engine get started since starting and warmup can be difficult if the intake air is TOO cold. This was especially a problem with carbed cars. I don't think it has much effect once the engine is warmed up, however.
