Dear all, I'm going to look at a 68 fastback at the weekend that is in original condition and has had only one previous owner from new who passed away recently. My friend has already looked at it and says it looks rust free and as I'm from the UK this sounds too good to be true! It has got lots of car park dents on the chrome and bumpers and looks sunbleached even though it was garaged all its life. All the bits are there, interior and out (including the original stickers on all the mats in the 'trunks'). The engine looks mint and starts first time and has done about 60000 miles. It is Green with a cream interior. Most of the rubbers have perished including the dreaded 'pop-out' rubbers on the rear windows. The owner wants £2500. What do you all think? Also once I have the car, done it up a little and sold my lovely 71 I will want to use it daily. Now in my opinion I would like it to be a 12volt so I can run a stereo. How do I do this? I know I need to change the bulbs, regulator and generator but is there anything else? Also are the 12V and 6V generators different sizes? And what about the starter motor? Could a 6 volt cope with a 12 charge for some time without burning out? Bearing in mind that my friend has had a beetle 12V with a 6V starter for over two years. Any info would be appreciated, Cheers, Will P.s. There is still a lovely 1971 1641 Fastback for sale :) See the classifieds. I'm getting pics very soon as I borrowed my mates’ digital camera ______________________________________________________________ For up-to-the-minute music news, reviews and specials visit http://www.nme.com Get free e-mail (anyname@nme.com) now at http://www.nmemail.com The sender of this e-mail is NOT an employee or associate of NME, nme.com or any other IPC magazine. ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
