These gasses have to be allowed to go somewhere, or they will force themselves out thru less desirable paths. Up thru 67 these were just vented off to the air, but from 68- on they are vented back into the intake air stream and burned. If yours gets clogged the gas will come out of the space around the rear end of the crank and make a rather big mess there. Part of the function of a breather is to separate the gas from the oil mist that is carried along with it.
