Sent: Tuesday, June 05, 2001 5:25 PM Subject: [T3] Installing new longblock > Hey everyone, > Ive never installed an engine into a type 3 before, and i have a new stock longblock on the way. Im going to put on a new clutch and pressure plate while its easy. Ive read a couple articles about breaking in a new engine, but im not sure about greasing the trans input shaft and flywheel and stuff like that, are there any special procedures to install the engine again, or just common sense and reverse of removal? Thanks a bunch everyone, hopefully i will soon be driving my fastback!! > > --- Put a little moly grease on the splines for the clutch, and a little (not much) in the pilot bearing in the gland nut. Replace the throwout bearing while it is out. If there is any sign of oil around the transmission input seal, replace it too. Ahh what the heck, they don't cost that much, relpace it. Most new pressure plates have some clips that hold the pressure plate compressed for easy installation. Don't froget to remove them after it is bolted up, and before you remove your alignment pilot. Back the clutch adjustment off before putting the engine back in. Make sure it turns free. Easier to free it up if frozen with the engine out. When putting the engine back in, don't bend the clutch disc by forcing it. If something doesn't want to go, back off, and find out why. Make sure the engine is alllllll the way in place before tightening the engine bolts.
