Berg has a paper on this. Octane does NOT affect power output, gas mileage, or head temp. It just prevents knock. Knock is an explosive detonation of the mixture in the combustion chamber. If it happens, it can create forces and shock large enough to damage and break things. Typical knock is a wide open throttle, low rpm thing. It has a kind of "tinkling" sound like a hand full of steel balls being dropped into a metal wastebasket. If you hear this, you need to use higher octane gas. - ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe? mailto:type3-request@vwtype3.org, Subject: unsubscribe
