I DO know that the GL5 was NOT reccomended by VW to be used in the
Transporter T3 (Vanagon) trannys, because it caused pitting on the
synchronizer rings, which eventually lead to cracks and transmission
failure. Tranny breakdown is not fun, BTDT as it happened on my 87 Syncro
Transporter I had a few years ago.
