Eric wrote What is the Normal running Oil/Head temperature for a 1600 eng. I have a guage from another car and I was wondering if any of you know what the spec should be. Thanks again ------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------ I have been using a temp sensor on my #3 head for a year and a half now. I placed it on the top front bolt/stud closest to the the exhaust. I did not place it on the spark plug because of the impracticality when removing the spark plug and breaking the wire. It is very difficult to install the sensor on the spark plug almost requires machining. I have given this data before on my previous e-mails . I am planning to place another sensor on the other bank of cylinders because I have my engine out and in little pieces. The other bank of cylinders have cracks because the cooling inlet pipe fell off when my dad took my car to Los Angeles. I suspect I had my inlet pipe missing for a couple of weeks during that time. Going 85 mph to 95 mph did wonders for the overheated head. I will buy a switch and sensor and use the same meter. When I do not use my car (or abuse it, someone else is abusing it, it never gets a rest. My head temps are the following during moderate climates: Slow driving and waiting at the Mexican border : - 250 degrees F Moderate speeds like 35 to 40 mph: - 300 degrees F High speeds like 55 to 65 mph : - 325 degrees F Higher speeds like 70 to 85 mph: - 350 degrees f Add 50 degrees when adjusting engine too lean. I did this leaning thing by installing my very lean correct virgin pressure sensor (EFI). Did not do too good when going up steep hills on a hot day when driving like road warrior (I need some Nitro). My shiney newlooking head got that nice golden burnt oil coating when removing the cover. Got to 450 degress F ocasionally. Went to a richer mixture and temperature dropped . On cold days the temp drops from median by 25 degrees F. I hope I have helped you in some way. LEON MARTINEZ 1969 SQUAREBACK EFI/AUTO SAN DIEGO AND TIJUANA
