I've really got nothing against these, except for the ones that 
require a special rotor to fit in our distributors, but I think you're off 
base with most of your objections above.

The stock points won't float, ever, within the red line of the engine.

If you lube and clean the cam the point gap seldom moves.

They work fine and there's nothing wrong with them, even if they did 
happen to be invented before most of us were born. They are a 
minor part of maintenance. They are no big deal

Or as you said: Sheeesh!
